Decision to walk 3,000 miles in a nutshell.
Hello, My name is Tara Hemphill, I am 21 years old. Since I was fifteen I have dreamed of being anywhere but Washington. I have lived other places growing up: Texas and Alaska, but my family always seemed to come back to here for work. I have lived in Washington state since I was six years old, but as I got older I always longed for some other kind of adventure. Traveling to Oregon with my church for summer camp was not enough. I received an opportunity to got to New York City to meet some long-time friends of mine last June. I had never felt so alive in my whole life.
I remember everything that I thought New York was going to be, was blown out of the water. Every corner held some kind of risk, or new social factor. I was hypnotized by the very ground under my feet. When I had to come back to Washington I had tears in my eyes as I bid my friends good bye, not knowing when I would see them again, or if I would ever get to see them ever again.
The one thing that kept me going was a joke that me and them used to say "I'll walk to New York if I have to." That was our joke. We would always just shoot the breeze with that.
The more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a fantastic idea though, why not walk to New York City? Why not see what is out there to see? This is my blog, my adventure, come with me, support me, donate, thank you for reading, and I hope you come back for more exciting updates.
